Iranian authorities have arrested at least 75 journalists since mass anti government protests swept across the country in the wake of Mahsa Amini's death in Tehran three days after she was detained by morality police for allegedly wearing her hijab “improperly.” Of the 75, Seventeen are still in prison.

Partnering with UK based agency, Volant Media, AlterEgo was the trusted partner chosen to direct, film, and provide creative direction for the 2023 Iran International TV brand campaign. Filming in Washington DC and partnering with local production in London, we ensured consistency in style and performance using matching cameras and settings, Cooke S8/i prime lenses, dolly, props, lighting schematics and set ratios, supervised by cinematographer and Founding Partner, Justin Kanner. The goal was to place all subjects over a stark white cyc, placing the camera at predetermined distances for each lens for seamless composition between both productions.
A high contrast monochrome treatment was applied in order to both focus attention on the featured journalists faces and communicate a classic cinematic vibe. Filming in color for black and white as your end goal can be tricky, so we placed great care and direction in the wardrobe, styling and prop choices. Lastly, it was imperative for us to find a Farsi speaking TelePrompter operator to seamlessly make any script changes on the fly with minimal distraction to talent.
